Newsjacking, the David Meerman Scott-invention of “injecting your ideas into a breaking news story so you and your ideas get noticed,” will be front-and-center tonight as one story takes over most of the United States: The third presidential debate between Republican nominee Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Brands will be capitalizing on the story, the tone of the debate, maybe even the actual clothes the candidates wear by hopping in on #debate or #debate2016 hashtags on social media.

A headache remedy is already in on it. You can watch live as brands use Hashtag Marketing Tools to jump into the conversation. Tools in this category help find good hashtags to adopt for a campaign based on number of key word or phrase mentions, help automate the hashtag campaign, recruit social influencers to post with your hashtag. Or the hashtag you’re looking to appropriate, like #debate.

For those going all-out on the debate, there will be a review of brands making whole commercials for the debate (like these from September.) We just can’t wait to watch those.
