Make GIF makers work for you

You’ve seen them on Twitter, embedded in slide decks, on Facebook, on your phone. They’re a shorthand way of communicating a shared experience — they’re the GIFs that keep on giving.

GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format. It is usually a sequence from video, or an animation of a group of images. The file is compressed and plays on a loop. If you want to convey a message to engage a wide audience but you’re not a professional-grade graphics guru, then quick and easy GIF makers are for you.

However, there are a few pointers about using GIFs:

  • Less is more. Have three big points to illustrate? GIFs could work. Have 50 pieces of data? No.
  • Think about your audience. Is a GIF of a child having a mishap more appropriate than a scene from Real Housewives of Atlanta? Is a Tim & Eric GIF a little obscure for your boardroom?
  • Check that your GIF works. In some formats your animation will show as a still image, or worse, all the photos you used to create your animation.
  • Is the tone right? A hilarious GIF may not be right for a poor earnings report. Or worse.

RhythmOne extends audience with acquisitions from RadiumOne

RhythmOne is extending its programmatic platform with the acquisition of assets from RadiumOne, a data driven marketing platform. The acquisition gives Rhythm one access to RadiumOne’s unique consumer insights, audience segmentation and targeting technology, and premium demand relationships. The combination will provide RhythmOne’s customers with a larger footprint of curated audiences from publishers and on the demand side, a sophisticated media buying capability.

CrowdTwist releases loyalty app within Oracle Cloud Marketplace

Attack of the zombie products in your stack

We’ve all done it — we’ve started with a marketing technology product, we opted to go from free to paid user, and then our needs changed. We needed a new better version, and figured we’d kill off what we had when the subscription ran out, and get the new product.

But then it became a zombie. The product wasn’t really dead. It kept coming back to life on the company credit card.

When you create that same scenario at scale, what you get are a pile of products you’re being charged for that look like the extras on the Walking Dead. Dozens, sometimes tens-of-dozens of products could be duplicates, unused, waiting to spring back to life and suck the marrow out of your budget when you need to be working on strategy.

Have you canceled all the contracts for all the tools your organization has stopped using?  Are you sure? Can you identify all the contracts you have, and when they renew?

Seller Labs spins off eCommerce platform Snagshout

eCommerce solutions provider Seller Labs is spinning off its successful product, Snagshout, into its own company. Snagshout will operate as an eCommerce platform, and will be led by Seller Labs co-founder and former CEO Paul Johnson.

Study: Personalization must tap into relevant data

Qubit, maker of personalization technology,has released its analysis of more than two billion user journeys and 120 million purchases to determine what uplift should eCommerce businesses expect from specific optimization techniques.

The data shows that programmatic and personalization experiences that tap into customer, product, or business data are providing anywhere from 2-to-14 times more incremental revenue per visitor versus traditional optimization efforts, which focus mainly on cosmetic changes such as colors and location of buttons. Conversely, experiences like popups or buttons that take a user back to the top of the page, can even have a negative impact.

“Now is the moment for transparency in our industry,” said Graham Cooke, founder and CEO of Qubit. “eCommerce leaders have to get personalization right when they’re trying to compete against the likes of Amazon, and yet it’s so hard to know what really works. Snap Map lets Snapchatters announce their location

Snapchat has just released a feature called Snap Map, allowing users to announce their location while the app is open. Locations are not available while the app is closed, allying fears of remote tracking. Users can use “Ghost Mode” to conceal their location.

Study: User Generated Content influences 90% of choices to buy

User-Generated Content is king when it comes to influencing a buyer.

Results from a recent study show most shoppers (90 percent) report UGC influences their decisions to make a purchase, outranking all other forms of marketing, including search engines (87 percent) and promotional emails (79 percent), which came in second and third. Notably, shoppers are also willing to pay more (81 percent) and wait longer (81 percent) for products paired with UGC.

The study,  “Hearing the Voice of the Consumer: UGC and the Commerce Experience,” was developed by TurnTo and executed by Ipsos. Additional findings include:

  • Nearly a quarter of female shoppers (24 percent) consider UGC to be the most influential marketing tool.
  • Shoppers under 30 report a greater influence of UGC in purchasing decisions versus older respondents. Of those aged 18-29, 97 percent report UGC has an extreme influence.

New tags will allow creators to, and perhaps set the standard that they should, clearly communicate to their followers when they are working in partnership with a business. They will note on posts and stories that publishers are working in “paid partnerships with” sponsors.
